Elmer H. Duis
(December 17, 1917 - January 19, 2007)
Elmer H. Duis was born Dec. 17, 1917 in Odell, NE to Rolf & Johnanna Luebben Duis. He died Friday, January 19, 2007 at his daughter's residence in Suffield, CT at the age of 89. He was the youngest of fourteen children. He graduated from high school in Odell, NE. He served in the 15th Infantry Div. in the US Army during WWII. He married Dorothy L. Bottcher on March 18, 1945 in Lanham, NE. She preceded him in death on March 19, 1989. He and Dorothy owned and operated a grocery business in the Clifton and Palmer, KS area for 24 years until they moved to Concordia, KS in 1978. He remained active in the Duis Meat Processing Plant in Concordia. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of American Legion Post #76, a member of VFW Post #588 all of Concordia. He is survived by sons; Kieth "Toby" & wife Sue of Concordia, KS and Ronald & wife Barbara of Salina, KS; daughters; Linda Branson and Marlys Brown & husband Larry both of Suffield, CT; brother; Harold Duis of Arlington, VA; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Services are scheduled for 10 am Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, Concordia. Additional services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lanham, NE with military graveside honors conducted by American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588. Burial will be at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Lanham, NE. Visitation will be from 9 am to 9 pm Friday, Jan. 26, 2007 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home where the family will greet friends from 7-8 pm. Memorials have been designated to First Presbyterian Church or Enfield Home & Community Hospice Care.
